If you are reading this because a technician or a park manager said "Style Crest" and the nameplate on your furnace says something else, that is normal. The distributor's name is on the paperwork. The label on the equipment is usually Revolv. The furnace it replaced was probably Intertherm, Miller or Coleman Evcon, and the parts that fit all of them overlap more than the badges suggest.

In the Valley this equipment is found in three settings:

• Age-restricted and family parks in Apache Junction, Mesa, Glendale and Peoria, where homes from the 1970s through the 2000s sit on leased lots and get their HVAC replaced when it fails, not before.
• Manufactured homes on private land on the East Valley and West Valley fringe, often with a well, propane, and a long drive for a parts run.
• Newer manufactured and modular homes where the factory-installed system has reached the age at which the outdoor unit gives out first.

Common problems and repair considerations

• Mismatched replacements. A previous replacement may have paired an outdoor unit with a coil it was never rated for. The system runs, badly, and the APS or SRP bill shows it.
• Return starvation. A closet door with a small grille and a hallway blocked by furniture will starve a downflow furnace. Cooling suffers first; the coil ices; the compressor follows.
• Duct failure under the home. Skirting work, plumbers and animals separate the trunk from the boots. The equipment is blamed for a duct problem.
• Heat on the pad. An outdoor unit on gravel next to vinyl skirting sees radiant heat that a shaded side yard never does. Capacitors and contactors fail earlier.

Homeowner checks are limited to the thermostat, the filter, one breaker reset, visible ice on the coil, and clearing debris from around the outdoor unit. Anything past that is a technician's job, and a web page is not a substitute for one.

Repair vs replacement for this brand

• Repair when the failed part is a common component, the coil and outdoor unit are matched, and the duct is sound.
• Replace when the outdoor unit is on R-22, when the furnace heat exchanger or cabinet has failed, or when a previous mismatch is costing you every month on a time-of-use plan.
• Replace the duct trunk first, or at the same time, if it is failing. New equipment on a collapsed trunk is money spent twice.
