One room that never cools has a cause, and it is findable. We diagnose delivery, leakage, heat load and capacity, then fix it starting with the cheapest option.

Almost every Phoenix home has one. The back bedroom that sits 8 degrees warmer than the hallway. The office above the garage nobody can work in after 2 p.m. The room where you close the door and put a box fan in the window and just live with it. That room has a cause, and the cause is findable. There are only four reasons a room will not cool, and each one has a different fix at a different price. The mistake is guessing. Homeowners buy a new air conditioner hoping it will solve one room, and the new unit cools the same house exactly as unevenly as the old one did.
We will tell you when not to spend money. If your room is 3 degrees warm and the fix is a $9,000 mini-split, we say so. If a $250 balancing visit closes the gap, that is what we do and we leave. Plenty of visits end with us adjusting two dampers and cutting a larger return grille. That is a real outcome, not a consolation prize. What we will not do is quote a new system for a problem the new system will not solve. If you want the longer version of this diagnosis, read our field note on the room that never cools.

Barely, and it can make things worse. Closing registers raises static pressure across the whole system, which strains the blower and can reduce total airflow. Proper air balancing uses dampers in the ductwork rather than the register faces, which redirects air without choking the system. If you have been closing vents for years, it is worth having the ducts checked - we often find crushed flex and disconnected boots during an attic duct inspection.
Heat rises, the attic above it reaches 155 degrees in July, and the duct runs feeding the second floor are usually the longest and leakiest in the house. Most two-story builds also have too little return capacity upstairs. We cover the full explanation in why upstairs is always hotter, and the usual fixes are sealing, a bigger return, and sometimes zoning.
Usually no. Duct cleaning addresses dust and air quality after haboob season, not temperature. Cleaning rarely changes airflow enough to fix a hot room unless the ducts are genuinely obstructed. Temperature problems are almost always delivery, leakage, heat load or capacity - and leakage is handled by duct repair and sealing, not cleaning.
