The July call is the important one. A direct evaporative cooler works by evaporation, and when the outdoor air already carries monsoon moisture there is little left to evaporate into. The evaporative cooler equipment page explains the physics. The practical answer for most Valley homes is a cooler for the dry months and refrigerated air for the wet ones, with the cooler duct dampered shut whenever the AC runs so conditioned air is not pushed out through the roof.
Window units have their own trouble: sagging mounts, leaking seals that stain the stucco, and a spot on a west wall that takes 112-degree sun on the cabinet all afternoon. Homeowners can check the water supply, the wall control and any visible overflow, and shut the unit off. Cabinet work and anything on a roof belongs to us.
Replace the whole unit when the pan leaks, the cabinet has rusted at the seams or the blower housing has failed. Replace the concept when the household is running the cooler into August and living with the humidity; at that point the honest recommendation is often a refrigerated system and a retired cooler, and the cooler replacement page covers that transition. Our repair-versus-replace guide applies to coolers with smaller numbers and the same logic.
Whatever the path, sizing is by airflow and duct capacity, not by guesswork from a web page. Book an on-site evaluation and we will measure it. The estimate page explains what that visit includes, and financing on approved credit is available for replacement work.
Standard parts are stocked widely. Family-specific panels, louvers and controls for older UltraCool and MasterCool units are research pending, and we check before promising. Whole-house coolers benefit from the same annual rhythm as any rooftop equipment: a spring start-up, a summer look, a fall shutdown. The maintenance page describes how we handle a home with both a cooler and an air conditioner in a single visit.

Straight answers, no runaround. Don’t see yours? Our team is a phone call away, around the clock.
Probably not. Evaporative cooling depends on dry outdoor air, and monsoon moisture takes that away. The cooler is doing what it can with the air it has. If you also have refrigerated air, switch to it and close the cooler damper; if you do not, that is the conversation to have before next summer.
We service installed whole-house and window units. Portables are appliances and fall outside our service work. For a garage or addition that currently relies on a portable, the homes without ductwork page covers permanent options.
No. The cooler pushes moist outdoor air into the house and the AC works to remove that moisture, so each undoes the other. Run one or the other, and make sure the cooler duct has a damper that seals when the AC is on. We verify that damper during service.
The data plate is usually inside the cabinet or on the side panel and lists the model and serial. Send us a photograph with your request. Families we recognize from our reference data are MasterCool and UltraCool for whole-house units; the plate tells us the rest.
Turn it off at the wall control and shut the water supply valve if it is reachable from the ground. A stuck float or blocked overflow is a small repair; standing water on a flat roof is not. Book a same-day visit and stay off the roof.
It depends on how you use it. A cooler used for the dry months on a home that already has refrigerated air is worth replacing in kind. A cooler that is the only cooling on the house pushes the household through July on hope, and a refrigerated system is usually the better replacement. The cooler replacement page lays out both paths.
The wet pads catch some of the dust that passes through them, which is why they load up faster during haboob season. That is a mechanical side effect, not a filtration rating, and it means more frequent pad changes rather than cleaner air by any measured standard.

An on-site evaluation checks the cabinet, the media and the damper, and tells you honestly whether to repair, replace or retire it.
