Essick Air coolers, including Champion-labeled units and older Essick families, cool Valley homes with rigid or conventional media. Bleuwave services them independently and tells you when the pads are the problem and when the cabinet is.

Each type lives in a specific cabinet; you do not swap one for the other without changing the cooler. If you are deciding between them for a replacement, the evaporative cooler explainer compares the two in more depth.
A homeowner can safely check that water is reaching the unit, that the wall switch is in the right position and that nothing is overflowing the roof edge, and can shut the unit off. Everything else, including anything on the roof, is a technician's job. The maintenance guide lists what a proper start-up covers, and the list is longer than most homeowners expect.
A rusted pan is terminal. A warped or rusted cabinet is terminal. A sound cabinet with worn internals is a repair, and a good one. The repair-versus-replace guide walks the general logic; for coolers the numbers are smaller but the sequence is the same.
The usage question is the one homeowners skip. A cooler on a home with no refrigerated air is a spring and fall machine and a July liability. If the family is buying box fans by mid-July, the right replacement may not be another cooler; it may be an air conditioner, and the cooler replacement page is where that conversation lives. Financing on approved credit is available for replacement work, and the estimates and financing page explains the process.
Nothing on this page can size a cooler for your duct or diagnose the reason yours is weak. That takes a visit.
For homes that also have central air, the single-family home HVAC page explains how a cooler and an air conditioner should be dampered so they do not fight each other.

That is mineral scale from hard water, and it means the bleed-off is not carrying enough of the concentrated pan water away. New media fixes the symptom; a working bleed-off or purge pump fixes the cause. We address both on the same visit.
Not without a cabinet built for it. Rigid media needs a different frame, a different depth and a distribution system on top. Choosing media is a decision made when the cooler is bought, which is one reason the replacement page spends time on it.
It is a small line that continuously drains a trickle of pan water so fresh water replaces it and minerals do not concentrate. In the Valley, yes, you need one or a purge pump that does the same job on a timer. A cooler without either scales up fast.
Our reference data shows Champion-labeled units within the Essick Air catalog alongside legacy Essick families, but the corporate detail is research pending and we do not guess at it. On a service call the data plate matters more than the badge, and the parts are largely shared either way.
Stagnant water left in the pan over winter is the usual reason, sometimes with old pads that never dried. A pan flush and fresh media at start-up clears it. Draining the pan at shutdown in the fall prevents it the following spring.
If it is July or August, no. The outdoor air is already carrying moisture and evaporation has little to work with; the cooler adds humidity without much cooling. Switch to refrigerated air if you have it and close the cooler damper. If you do not have it, that is the replacement conversation.
Yes, after a proper shutdown: water off, pan drained and dried, old pads out. A cover on a wet pan traps moisture and speeds the rust it was meant to prevent. Our fall shutdown visit covers all of it, and the maintenance guide explains what is included.

An on-site evaluation checks the media, the bleed-off and the cabinet, then gives you a flat-rate repair number or a straight replacement recommendation.
