Common problems and repair considerations

The problems that cost money are structural. A pan that has rusted through, a cabinet that has warped, a blower housing with a cracked bearing mount. Roof-mounted units also age the roof beneath them: one season of slow overflow can rot the curb and stain the ceiling below.

A homeowner can safely check the wall control, confirm the water supply is on, look for visible overflow at the roof edge and shut the unit down. Do not go on the roof. Do not open the cabinet. Repair vs replacement for this brand

The larger question in Phoenix is whether to keep evaporative cooling at all. The service pattern that works: start-up in April with new media and a pan flush, a mid-summer check when the pads crust, and a shutdown in October with the water off, the pan dry and the cover on. Skip the shutdown and the pan spends the winter rusting.
