Daikin brought side-discharge inverter splits, ductless heads and communicating controls to Valley homes. That technology suits the desert in specific ways and complicates service in others.

In Phoenix the name has become associated with the side-discharge inverter split system, a squat outdoor unit that blows air out the side rather than the top and modulates its output instead of slamming on and off. That design suits the Valley in specific ways and complicates service in others.

The FIT side-discharge system shows up in newer custom homes and in replacements where a homeowner wanted quieter, modulating cooling and a smaller footprint along a tight side yard. DP packaged units go on the flat roofs of older Phoenix and Glendale block homes. The ductless families cool garages, casitas and the room the ductwork never reached. Our guide to single-stage, two-stage and variable-speed equipment explains why an inverter compressor behaves differently on a 112-degree afternoon, and the ductless mini-split guide covers the Aurora-through-Multi-Split end of the lineup.
Homeowner checks are the same as for any system: thermostat mode and setpoint, filters (including the mesh screens in a ductless head), a single breaker reset, visible ice, and clear space around the outdoor unit. Daikin One+ may display a code; note it, do not act on it. Neither this page nor the thermostat's screen can diagnose your system. That is done on site.
Where replacement earns a look: an older conventional Daikin split at the end of its life, a packaged rooftop unit whose cabinet has rusted through, or a ductless head serving a room that has since been remodeled into something larger.
Any replacement, inverter or otherwise, begins with a load calculation at the house and an inspection of the ductwork, returns and electrical service. Inverter systems are especially sensitive to duct static pressure, and oversizing them defeats the reason for buying one.
The Premium air cleaner and IAQ families are duct-mounted filtration devices. Mechanically, they capture particulate from the airstream passing through a matched system's return, and they need periodic media service to keep from choking airflow. We describe them by what they do to air, not by what they do to people.
Manufacturer warranties on Daikin equipment are administered by the manufacturer under its own registration and installation requirements. We make no claim about the factory warranty status of your equipment. Our own labor is covered by our published workmanship terms.
Inverter and ductless systems reward regular coil and drain service more than conventional units do, because their efficiency depends on clean heat exchange. Our maintenance guide describes the annual visit. When a quote is the next step, the estimates and financing page explains flat-rate pricing and notes that financing on approved credit is available.
Straight answers, no runaround. Don’t see yours? Our team is a phone call away, around the clock.
Yes, with the right training, instruments and service procedures. Inverter equipment is diagnosed differently from a single-stage unit, but it is not sealed magic. We are not affiliated with Daikin and say so plainly; we service the equipment because customers own it.
Write it down and, if the system is icing or noisy, turn it off. Do not try to clear or act on the code beyond that. The code narrows the search for a technician; it does not replace the diagnosis at the equipment.
On a communicating system, a generic thermostat may lose the modulating control that justifies the equipment, or fail to run it at all. Some configurations allow it with adapters; whether yours does is a question answered at the house. Our smart thermostat page explains the difference.
Often because the discharge air is bouncing off a wall, gate or hedge and returning to the coil. Recirculated exhaust at 130 degrees throttles cooling exactly when the house needs it most. Clearance in the discharge direction is the first thing we check.
The principles are the same, but everything is in one cabinet on the roof in full sun, and rooftop access is a technician's job, not a homeowner's. Belts, dampers and cabinet condition matter more than on a split. See our packaged rooftop unit guide.
It is a duct-mounted filtration device that captures particulate from the airstream on a matched system. It needs periodic media service or it restricts airflow. We describe what it does to air and make no claims about what it does for anyone's health.
Usually, if the system is well installed and not near the end of its life. The board is more expensive than a capacitor, but it is one part. We quote the repair and, where reasonable, a replacement so you can compare.
No. Inverter systems in particular are sensitive to oversizing and to duct static pressure. Sizing is done by a load calculation at the house with the ductwork inspected. Financing on approved credit is available once the scope is set.

Inverter and communicating equipment deserves a technician with the instruments and procedures to read it. On-site evaluation, flat-rate pricing, and an honest call on repair versus replacement.
