Look at the thermostat. If it offers Emergency Heat or Aux Heat, you have a heat pump. If the indoor unit is a gas furnace with a flue pipe, you almost certainly have a straight AC. When in doubt, the data plate on the outdoor unit says so, and a technician can confirm in seconds.
