About the Triangle Tube brand
Triangle Tube is a boiler label under ACV, a European hydronic manufacturer. The brand's residential reputation rests on stainless-steel heat exchangers in wall-hung condensing boilers, most recognizably the Prestige and Challenger families. What follows is a field perspective, not a catalog. A word about geography. Phoenix is a forced-air town. Most of the Valley heats with a heat pump or a gas furnace pushing air through attic ducts, and a boiler is something people remember from a childhood in Chicago. But hydronic heating does exist here: radiant floors in custom builds from Paradise Valley to Cave Creek, tile-slab radiant in a handful of Scottsdale remodels, and the occasional transplant who brought their mechanical preferences with them. In the Valley these typically serve radiant floor loops, sometimes a hydronic air handler, and occasionally a pool or spa heat exchanger. The boiler is only one part of that system. Common problems and repair considerations
Condensing boilers are efficient because they wring heat from flue gas until it condenses. That condensate is mildly acidic and must drain. In a Phoenix mechanical room, the condensate trap and neutralizer are the first things a technician checks, because a plugged trap will shut a boiler down and a dry trap can let flue gas where it does not belong. Other patterns worth knowing:
- Short run seasons. A Valley boiler may fire for ten weeks a year. Seals dry, pumps seize and igniters that would have failed gracefully in a northern winter fail on the first cold night in December.
- Hard water. Phoenix municipal water is mineral-heavy. Systems that were filled without treatment can scale the heat exchanger and clog small passages.
- Combustion air and venting. Sealed-combustion boilers pull air from outside. Haboob dust and a screen full of debris will starve the burner.
- Controls and sensors. Outdoor reset sensors, flow switches and low-water cutoffs age quietly and produce lockout codes that look worse than they are.
What a homeowner can safely check is short: the thermostat is calling for heat, the boiler has power, the breaker has not tripped (reset it once, no more), and nothing is visibly leaking underneath. Repair vs replacement for this brand
Radiant systems are expensive to install and cheap to keep. That changes the math. A forced-air replacement swaps a box; a boiler replacement has to respect the loop design, the zoning and the water chemistry already in the slab. So the bias here tilts toward repair longer than it would for an attic air handler, provided three things hold: the heat exchanger is sound, parts are still obtainable, and the boiler is sized correctly for the load it serves. When those fail, the conversation changes. A cracked or heavily scaled heat exchanger is usually the point at which replacement makes more sense than repair. Some homeowners with an aging boiler and an aging air conditioner ask whether a heat pump could take over heating and leave the radiant loop idle. Sometimes yes.
